Science engagement is practised differently in each region around the world. The Falling Walls Engage Hubs bring together science engagers worldwide for knowledge exchange and collaboration. These international community nodes and events connect local scientific communities with international science engagement initiatives. The Falling Walls Engage Hub Sweden connects international and Nordic-Baltic science engagement and scicomm practitioners.
The aim with Hub Sweden is to connect and explore the science engagement ecosystem in Northern Europe and to exchange ideas and best practices on science engagement and scicomm with engagers globally. The network is coordinated by Vetenskap & Allmänhet (VA Public & Science), and is a part of the Falling Walls Engage international network. The Hub Sweden community is open for all scicomm practitioners and science engagers in the Nordic Baltic region; Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Åland.
The mission is to connect people across all fields of science engagement through international exchange. Hub participants may take part in workshops and events to exchange knowledge and learn from best-practice examples. The hubs also provide the opportunity for participants to increase the visibility of their projects.
The Swedish hub will organise regular in person and online meetings. During our forthcoming events we will take a closer look at the Northern European perspective and join the global conversation on science engagement and scicomm. Members of the network will also be able to join activities and events organised by the other Falling Walls Engage international hubs as well as propose ideas for upcoming events. Find out more on the Falling Walls Engage website.
Forthcoming activities
National Forum for Science Communication
Join science communication officers, science engagers, policy makers, researchers and scicomm nerds at the Forum for Science Communication on November 27 in Stockholm or online. This year is “Mission: Democracy”, we will highlight and explore different perspectives on the role of science communication and public engagement in strengthening democracy and building trust in society in a time of knowledge resistance, fake news and misinformation. We will also discuss the role of the science communications officer, the impact of AI and how we can strengthen exchange and cooperation between communicators, researchers, the media and the surrounding society. The main conference language is Swedish with some presentations in English. Find out more about the conference at the event website and in programme (in Swedish). Registrations for on site attendance will be open until 12 November. If you are based in Sweden please register via this link but if you are based outside Sweden please send an email to: [email protected] to register for the conference.
Prior to the Forum for Science Communication, in the afternoon of November 26, the 2024 national finals of the Researchers’ Grand Prix competition will be run at the same venue. The Researchers Grand Prix is a show where researchers from all over the country compete in presenting their research in the most captivating, inspiring and educational way possible – in just four minutes! This year five researchers from across Sweden will take to the stage in Stockholm to compete. Welcome to join the audience and help us choose the winner. After the competition, there will be mingling and networking with competitors and conference participants at the science center The Cell.
