Needless to say, if researchers do not communicate their science, it will never be useful for society. To better understand the role of researchers and the factors that influence their dialogue with society at large, VA conducts studies of researchers’ experiences and attitudes related to communicating science.
Public attitudes to science and research is a common topic of interest for researchers. Less studied, but equally important, is the researcher in his or her role as a communicator of science.
- During 2018–2019, we conducted a survey of Swedish researchers’ views on communication and Open Science. VA carried out the project in collaboration with the Swedish Research Council, Vinnova – Sweden’s Innovation Agency, the Research Councils Forte and Formas, and the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences. The results are presented in the following report; Researchers views on Communication and Open Sciecne – VA Report 2019:6
- As part of the ARCS project, VA and researchers from the University of Gothenburg carried out a series of in-depth interviews with researchers in 2018. The purpose was to explore their views and experiences of collaborating with members of the public in their research. Results have not yet been published.
- In 2002, VA conducted in-depth interviews with researchers in cooperation with Linköping University. And in 2003, more than 400 telephone interviews were conducted with researchers at different career stages and from different disciplines. A focus group study was also conducted in cooperation with Linköping University. The results of the interview surveys are presented in the following report; How Researchers View Public and Science, 2003 – VA Report 2003:4 The other reports are only available in Swedish.
