EPiCS (ENGAGE PEOPLE in CITIZEN SCIENCE)

Blending Citizen Science with Research Service-Learning to tackle societal challenges

EPiCS is a project aimed at enhancing public engagement in research by fostering inclusive participation and integrating citizen science approaches.

Involving eight partners from seven European countries, the project will explore how students, researchers, and community members can jointly design research projects to address real-world challenges. The three-year project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme and runs from December 2024 to November 2027.

Key objectives :

  • Encourage community involvement in scientific research.
  • Promote interdisciplinary and experiential learning within higher education.
  • Develop an online academic deliberative arena for Citizen Science initiatives and research service-learning projects.
  • Launch six pilot citizen science projects across Europe.
  • Share tools and guidance through an open-access toolkit and handbook.

Project activities include pilot six citizen science projects, training and capacity building, the development of open-access educational resources, and dissemination activities.

In the EPiCSs project Public & Science Sweden is leading the communication & dissemination work and is also responsible for the development of a public engagement strategy.  If you are interested in finding out more about the project, please get in touch with Lotta Waesterberg Tomasson at Public & Science.
