The European Competence Centre for Science Communication platform has now been launched – marking an important step in strengthening collaboration and capacity for science communication across Europe.
Developed within the EU COALESCE project, the platform is designed as a shared European space where science communicators, researchers, journalists, artists and organisations can connect, collaborate and learn from one another. With its new interactive features, users can now create profiles, build partnerships and explore opportunities tailored to their expertise and interests.

Building connections across Europe
At the heart of the platform is a strong focus on community-building. A new “find your match” tool allows users to search for collaborators based on expertise, interests or areas of work – making it easier to identify potential partners for projects, funding applications or knowledge exchange.
A dedicated opportunities area further supports collaboration by helping users:
- Find partners for project proposals
- Connect with science communication experts or researchers
- Discover new professional opportunities across Europe
By registering, users also gain access to a growing Community of Practice, which already includes more than 1,000 members engaged in mutual learning, events and participatory activities.
Growing Nordic and European network
The launch also comes alongside an expansion of the COALESCE network of hubs. Five new hubs have recently joined, bringing the total to 27 hubs across 22 European countries.

Notably, the Nordic region is now strongly represented, with new partners including:
- The Science Basement (Finland)
- University of Agder (Norway)
- University of Copenhagen, Department of Science Education (Denmark)
Together with Public & Science Sweden, which coordinates the Swedish hub, these organisations contribute regional expertise and help ensure that local languages, audiences and science communication ecosystems are reflected in a broader European collaboration.
As Joana Magalhães, co-coordinator of COALESCE, highlights:
The role of the Hubs is fundamental to understanding national science communication contexts and contributing to a coordinated international network that brings local knowledge, languages and audiences.
Resources and training
Beyond networking, the platform is also becoming a central access point for science communication resources and professional development opportunities. Current and upcoming activities include:
- SciComm Lunchtime Series – monthly short training sessions exploring key topics in science communication
- Training collaborations – tailored workshops and courses available for organisations, both online and in person
SciComm Conversations podcast – featuring discussions and insights from across the field
Join and help shape the platform
The European Competence Centre is still evolving, and early participation will play a key role in shaping its future. Anyone working with – or interested in – science communication is invited to join the platform, create a profile and become part of this growing European network.Explore the platform and sign up: https://scicommcentre.eu/
