As Secretary-General, I am head of our office, working to promote dialogue between the academic society and the general public. I consider citizens’ access to – and discussion of – scholarly and scientific knowledge as a fundamentally democratic matter in a time where many of the most important decisions we need to make, both as a society and as individuals, rely on scientific knowledge and technological development.
I have a background as a researcher in solar cell technology with a PhD in physical chemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL) but have worked for almost three decades as a science writer and producer, including more than ten years as Editor-in-chief of the science newsroom at Swedish Radio. Alongside my journalistic work I have nourished a particular interest in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and spent a year as a visiting fellow at Cambridge University writing about the interaction between genetic research and wider cultural and societal issues. In 2023 I was awarded an honorary doctorate at the Faculty of Arts at Uppsala University.
