How can cities get prepared for unexpected, non-linear events and at the same time ensure high liveability for its inhabitants?
The third Urban Lunch Talks webinar addresses urban transitioning towards more liveable and sustainable cities against the backdrop of current and future environmental and socio-economic crises. While urban resilience implies more of a reactive approach and the ability to cope with and recover from crises, robustness implies proactivity and transforming challenges into innovations and advantages.
Meet with three expert panellists sharing and comparing transitioning experiences from Europe, USA and Latin America. Take part in the discussion on what urban energy and socio-economic transitioning means in practice and what role experimentation can play in times of uncertainties and lingering crises.
Panellists
Prof. Vanesa Castán Broto, professorial fellow at the Urban Institute at the University of Sheffield. Vanesa’s research focuses on the governance of global environmental change in the urbanization age. She focuses on the governance of climate change in urban areas, urbanization and the dynamics of energy transitions, and barriers to the implementation of climate change action.
Prof. Andrew Karvonen, Associate Professor and Director of Doctoral Studies in the Division of Urban and Regional Studies, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Andrew conducts research on the politics and practice of sustainable urban development with a particular focus on the cultural and social dimensions of urban technologies.
Dr. Vlad Mykhnenko, Associate Professor in Sustainable Urban Development at the Department for Continuing Education, Oxford University. Vlad is a Geographical Political Economist, working on a range of issues related to Economic Geography, Urban and Regional Economics, and Comparative Political Economy.
Moderator is Cissi Askwall, Secretary General, CEO of the Swedish NGO Public & Science, VA, who has a long and passionate experience of research communication and public engagement.
