European Researchers’ Night in Sweden – ForskarFredag
As part of the EU project European Researchers' Night, Public & Science Sweden organises the Swedish Science festival ForskarFredag, in collaboration with local organisers across Sweden once a year.
European Researchers’ Night was organised for the first time in 2005 around Europe and in a number of locations in Sweden.
In 2006, it was organised for the first time under the name ForskarFredag (ResearcherFriday) and was coordinated by Public & Science in Sweden. Since then, it has been an annual event and coordinated by Public & Science Sweden in partnership with national funders.
Activities
European Researchers’ Night in Sweden is organised at different universities, science centres, museums, archives, research centres, municipalities, science parks and regional development councils across whole of Sweden.
As part of European Researchers’ Night, Public & Science Sweden organises the Researchers’ Grand Prix and runs annual Citizen Science projects for schools and the Public to participate in all across Sweden.
Another part of ForskarFredag is the concept ‘borrow a researcher’. Researchers visit schools, non-profit associations or workplaces, to talk about their work as a researcher and the wider societal context of their research – either in person or online. An online booking platform facilitates researchers’ booking.

ForskarFredag is part of the EU-funded European Researchers’ Night. In Sweden, it has been coordinated by Public & Science Sweden in partnership with the the Swedish Research Council since 2006. The project is supported by organisations and companies across the country.
